Regardless of what you feel about President-elect Obama, we can take joy in seeing a man of color elected to the presidency. In many ways, this is MLK's dream realized...and this nation, which was once a purveyor of slavery, has elected a black man. We have truly come a long way. Additionally, It was neat to hear him mention Montgomery and Selma as key stops along the march to freedom for the civil rights march.
There is something that came up a few days before the election that has been troubling me ever since. Read the following part of a speech from a US Senator regarding Obama:
"Who is going to lead us out of poverty? Barack Obama!" "Who is going to save the United States of America? Barack Obama!" "Who is going to save the entire world? Barack Obama!"
Each election season, both sides hope (and often believe) that their candidate is going to save the country. No one man will ever save our nation. No one man will ever save the entire world. Yet Republicans and Democrats think their man will be their savior. Each time they are sorely disappointed. Perhaps we do realize the need for a savior figure to rescue us!
There IS one God - Man who has: Jesus Christ.
1 Timothy 2:1-8
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7 And
for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling
the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the
Gentiles. 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
